Wonderful piece. Well written and captures the situation as it is. I was no early adopter of tech. It took me two weeks, only two weeks, to understand the power that tech holds. It is not that they do not want to use technology, it is simply the case of the single story. It is very easy for people to embrace technology, somebody just has to explain to them its various uses and benefits.

This is a sad state of affairs, much as someone needs to earn a living, one needs to have a longer term vision for the business one has... You can do some things to help you earn money, no one begrudges you that, but you should have long term focus of what you want.

There is a swahili saying that says Usiache mbachao kwa msala upitao. "Never give up your old mat for a better prayer mat which you see passing". Short term business is good, it's necessary, but don't lose sight of what got you into business to begin with, if y ou lose that, you might as well go back into employment and enjoy the security.

...and that's the problem! Who lied to you that YOU DECIDE WHAT APPS ARE BEST FOR THE MARKET!?

There's a little something dev's don't really invest time in (just like UX). Its called MARKET FORCES! They are the guys who run the show...not devs!

The dev is not the focus...the ecosystem is!

Love that! "Take the SH out of IT!" Made it the alternative title to this post.

I agree with your model. Work on a value add product which consumers will purchase then expand etc. I however will caution that people need to know that what I'm referring to here as "value add" could be the key to creating an impact and not just making money as an end goal .

Thx Nonie!
